ABOUT
Tina Atami (Tbilisi, Georgia) is a Paris-based multidisciplinary artist working in painting, performance, and installation. Through layering of transparent materials, she becomes an observer of her own decisions—treating the painting process as a reflection of the life cycle. Her performances reflect her views on societal norms and dogmas, resisting behaviors that serve to limit personal freedom.
She studied at the Shota Rustaveli University of Theatre and Film (2008–2012), though her visual and performance practice is largely self-taught and rooted in lived experience. Her work often begins with found surfaces and is layered with transparent materials such as calque or silk. She creates quiet disruptions — gestures or forms that question cultural conditioning and open space for emotional and political contradiction.
In 2016, she was in residence at Art Villa Garikula, where she developed her first large-scale sculptural and performance works. She later worked as a stylist, scenographer, and costume designer for film and editorial projects, before curating and participating in the 2019 group exhibition Alles ist OK in Tbilisi. Her work has been featured in the Oxygen Biennale and in independent exhibitions throughout Georgia.
Since 2023, she has been an artist-in-residence at POUSH (Paris), where she continues to develop performance-based installations. In the same year, a performance advocating for bodily freedom — staged in a Tbilisi cemetery — led to national media backlash. That experience reinforced her commitment to performance as a tool for resistance, intimacy, and reclaiming public space.
